Frogs
(4-5s)
The frogs begin their day with a greeting at the door from Mrs. Hayes. A short circle time includes hellos, sharing by the children of nature or science items brought in and an explanation of activities available for the day. The children then move to center activities which may include: marble painting, science experiments, writing and tracings or manipulates with math, numbers, counting, color. The children are then allowed “free choice” time where they can enjoy activities such as the climber, painting at the easel, kitchen and housekeeping, dress-up, blocks, puzzles, marble maze, books and anything at the centers. Mrs. Hayes also offers a variety of other choices each day of class at the arts and crafts table, small manipulative table, and the cornmeal/water/rice table. The science table is always available, usually with articles pertaining to the week's theme or lesson. After clean-up, the children are given a healthy snack followed by a second circle time including listening to a story, songs, and finger plays. Outdoor playtime fills the last fifteen minutes of class time, weather permitting.
An optional Extended Day program is offered on Mondays until 2:00 p.m. for the Frogs class beginning in November. The children bring lunch, have quiet/rest time, free play, small group work, and kindergarten readiness activities. Cost is an extra fee not included in tuition for the Frogs class.
The frogs are taught by Judy Hayes. Judy has a B.A. in English Education and a M.A. in English. She is a former high school English teacher and has 21 years of preschool teaching experience! Judy is also a former Co-op mom with her 4 children.
